This is the most ridiculous question I can answer. How can a country that claims to be of the people and for the people consider something as basic as health care anything but a right? How can a country that produces the best in medical technology and the best in specialists not have these readily available to ALL of its inhabitants?
In a place that claims to be the greatest country on Earth, there should not be ONE SINGLE family that has to choose between putting food on the table and getting adequate healthcare. It just doesn't make sense to me. I don't see how this is even up for debate?
I understand that we live in a limited free market economy, but there are some things that should be outside the free market. Sure, it might raise taxes some, but I'm fine with that. I've been bitten by the medical emergency during a period where I didn't have health insurance and I ended up having to stay in the hospital for a week and ended up owing almost $20,000. $20,000!! Can you believe that? I'm STILL paying some of that off to this day! And you know what? I consider myself LUCKY. It could have been much worse, I could make LESS money, my bills could've been higher. I hear and read so many horror stories about people declaring BANKRUPTCY because they are absolutely overwhelmed by medical debt. I just don't get it. You can't and shouldn't have to put a price tag on your health.
With Obama leading by a healthy margin in the polls, I'm hopeful that something will be done about health care in the near future. Of course, it may be delayed thanks to the current economic disaster, but like I said... I'm hopeful.
